Officers and enlisted men of the 457th Bomb group were stationed at RAF Glatton, the wartime name for Conington Airfield where B17 Flying Fortress aircraft flew from, to complete bombing missions over France and Germany in WW2 as part of the Eighth Air Force Allied Forces in Europe.

In 2020 the servicemen of the 457th Bomb Group were remembered in a ceremony at Conington Churchyard around the memorial to the 457th Bombardment Group which overlooks the old Airfield on the 75th anniversary of the first mission flown by them on February 21st 1944.
